Cobalt's Minecraft Makeover

Check out our new game: Cobalt WASD! Celebratory Minecraft textures included!

Mojang isn’t just a collection of devilishly charming and talented individuals who develop Minecraft - sometimes we publish games too! We published the amazing, massive, sidescrolling, robo-blastin’ RPG, Cobalt, back in the year of 2016. Today, we’re thrilled to publish its amazing standalone multiplayer follow-up: Cobalt WASD.

To celebrate its release (which coincides with a massive update to the original game, too), the lovely chaps at Oxeye Game Studio have created a special Minecrafty texture pack that players of Cobalt can use to create their own blocky side-scrolling levels!

Look at it! Wow!

If you’re thinking that this is all just a thinly veiled pretext so we can talk about Cobalt: WASD on popular website - then you’re right! So let’s cut to the chase: what’s Cobalt: WASD all about?

It’s a 2D, team-based game with explosives that stop time

Two teams of adorable, somersaulting robots duke it out over successive rounds, one side attempting to plant and detonate bombs in their opponents’ base, and the other, quite reasonably, attempting to stop them. Each round earns money the teams can spend on outlandish equipment. Take a stealth suit, slip past the enemy’s defences and snipe from the shadows, or dive straight into the fray, blazing away, deflecting incoming shots with the reflector shield. Or toss a time bomb into the mosh-pit and watch as bots explode in balletic slow-motion! Here’s a trailer!

Sticky sentries! Teleportation devices! Radioactive crossbows! Grappling hooks! Holographic floating boxes! Jet boots! Healing pumps! It’s got the lot.

It’s superfast fun with a high skill-ceiling, and a ridiculous number of possible strategies - made even more ridiculous by map and mods support on the Steam Workshop. Made specifically for PC, Cobalt WASD also has mouse-aim, dedicated servers, a gazillion camera settings, a native resolution of 1920x1080 and can even run at 1000 frames per second - all the things PC gamers love!

It costs €6.99, but folks who were alpha testers on the original Cobalt get it for freeeeeee!

As mentioned above, we also released a massive update to the game’s predecessor, Cobalt, with map and mod support. And we're updating the price, too! We're just waiting for Steam to confirm the price change to a mere €15. You'll then be able to buy it in a bundle with Cobalt WASD for €19.99.
